Third meeting of the LifeWatch expert group
On Friday June 13th 2014, the expert group for the LifeWatch marine observatory and data archaeology met for the third time at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) in Ostend, Belgium.
Ocean Sampling Day!
Never before so many people contributed to a simultaneous sampling of the ocean. On the occasion of ‘Ocean Sampling Day’ (21 June 2014) oceanographers and citizens on not less than 187 sites worldwide have been taking seawater samples in order to unveil the secrets of microbial life in the ocean. VLIZ participated in this global exercise by taking samples with its research vessel Simon Stevin in the Belgian part of the North Sea, which generated a lot of attention from national and international press.
Three PhD scholarships available within LifeWatch
The research topics of the three PhD projects focus on (1) eDNA, (2) the microbial food web and (3) zooplankton research in the Belgian part of the North Sea.
LifeWatch marine technical meeting at HCMR
As an outcome of the 2nd LifeWatch e-Infrastructure Construction Operational Meeting in Granada earlier this year, a LifeWatch - marine meeting was organized from 3rd-5th of June at the Hellenic Centre of Marine Research in Crete.
