New professional book scanner at VLIZ Library
The VLIZ Library purchased a new professional book scanner, which will greatly benefit the data archaeology activities within the Flemish LifeWatch project.
Within the context of several digitizing projects, the VLIZ Library has purchased a professional book scanner Atiz Bookdrive Pro. This widely used scanner model has for instance also been selected for the mass scanning operations of the Biodiversity Heritage Library consortium http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/
With this infrastructure, large portions of the library collection can be scanned and stored in high quality. For data archaeology purposes within the LifeWatch project, Belgian (marine) literature will be text-analysed and screened with taxonomic recognition software, enabling direct linking with taxonomic records in the WoRMS database www.marinespecies.org
