LifeWatch citizen scientists got in-depth training on plastic

SeaWatchers closed the year-end of 2022 in an educational way. They took part in the 'plastic' training which zoomed in on the importance of collecting 'marine litter' data, the optimisation of the current protocol and through which methodology they can also provide data at European level.
LifeWatch citizen scientists got in-depth training on plastic
In late December, the LifeWatch SeaWatchers, a group of volunteering citizen scientists, gathered at the new InnovOcean campus for an in-depth training on plastic and marine waste. Participants refreshed the current protocol on reporting beach litter and had the chance to apply for a more extensive methodology to categorise litter, at European level. Finally, they were told a series of extraordinary anecdotes about unique plastic finds in the North Sea. A surprisingly interesting evening!
Take a look at the VLIZ website to enjoy this fascinating evening.

The SeaWatch-B beach observation network consists of engaged citizen scientists who collect reliable long-term data on the state of the Belgian North Sea.

The citizen science initiative is supported by the Flemish contribution of the European LifeWatch project, which facilitates research on biodiversity and ecosystems.
