VLIZ opens, for the first time, the doors of its Marine Station Ostend for the public at large.

The Flanders Marine Institute celebrates Science Day (Dag van de Wetenschap). On sunday 23rd of November VLIZ opens, for the first time, the doors of its Marine Station Ostend for the public at large. Marine scientists will demonstrate the variety of research performed at the station:
  • Make a virtual dive with the underwater robot Genesis to the deep sea
  • A sip of seawater is full of microscopic life
  • Meet the lobsters who are living on the artificial reefs in the wind farms at sea
  • The DNA of the sea
  • Cabinet of curiosities: discover the most excentric animals living in and on our sea floor
  • Make a journey through the history of marine stations in the harbor of Ostend
  • Discover the wide range of equipment that scientists use to take samples at sea
  • Learn more about the research vessel Simon Stevin
  • From beachcomber to marine archeologist, the sea offers treasures for anyone!
When: Sunday November 23rd, from 10.00 to 17.00
