| Abstract |
In this contribution, we give an overview of the presence of different groups of flies in and along the Flemish coastal dunes. Although no svstematic studies have been conducted, we can conclude that the diptera fauna, living on beaches and in salt marshes should be considered as threatened in Flanders because of the extreme rarity of their habitat and the destruction of it by tourist recreation [swash mark cleaning]. Species living in the coastal dunes are less threatened but also require conservation efforts. In particular, variation in vegetation seems to be essential for a high diversity. |
