Mussels and oysters were encaged at several sites in Belgian harbours and coastal waters, to detect possible differences in populations and/or biometric parameters depending on the differences of contaminants between study sites. more
Cages with mussels and oysters enclosed, were placed along a gradient from the harbour through the coastal zone to the most offshore sampling locations in the BCS. Experimental cages placed at the Sluice dock in Ostend were considered to be the reference condition . Various biometric parameters representing somatic growth as well as environmental conditions were recorded regularly for the duration of the experiment.
