Dag van de Wetenschap 2017
On Sunday 26th of November 2017, VLIZ celebrated Science Day (Dag van de Wetenschap). For this event, VLIZ opened the doors of its Marine Station Ostend (MSO) and the LifeWatch laboratories for the public at large, for the fourth year in a row.
Two aspects of the Flemish LifeWatch infrastructure were presented:
(1) The LifeWatch Species Information Backbone (WoRMS - BerMS - MolluscaBase - Invasive species), and
(2) The LifeWatch Marine Observatory (and in particular the plankton monitoring in the Belgian Part of the North Sea and the Video Plankton Recorder).
Furthermore, the RV Simon Stevin could be visited. The event was advertised through various channels (Twitter, posters, newspapers, etc.) by the Communication Department of VLIZ. In 2017, the event attracted 677 visitors at the MSO and the RV Simon Stevin.
