Abstract
Three years of experiments on the growth of glass eel resulted in the elaboration of recirculation culturing units suitable for elvers. The units are described, each of them comprises four cylindric-conical silos and one trickling filter. The water temperature is maintained around 25°C and stocking densities vary from 20 to 60kg.m³. The elvers are kept for several months in the system. Data on water quality and on the occurrence of pathogens are given and survival, growth rates, growth variability and food conversion are discussed.
