The deployments enable detection of acoustically tagged animals migrating between the brackish Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The deployments will be located in the transition zone between the two seas, enabling researchers to investigate how different marine species such as Bluefin tuna, Atlantic cod, Atlantic salmon, sea trout, flounder, plaice and sole utilize the highly variable conditions present within relatively small geographic distances in the area. The deployments will also enable researchers to address questions of a managerial kind, such as escapement of endangered European eel from the Baltic sea. The importance of deployments in the Baltic Straits have been discussed for many years in the region and recently also on an ETN-level.
