Abstract:
QBAG was incorporated in September 2009 and in partnership with BBIFMAC, was awarded a Community Action Grant which focused on sea turtles. In March 2010, QBAG and Gudjuda signed an MOU to work together to monitor sea turtles in the Bowen area. To launch the project they hosted a film night with the Sea Turtle Foundation and Gudjuda which was attended by over a hundred people. They also ran a workshop that was attended by over 50 people and sponsored information and learning sessions in 4 Bowen schools.

Since then QBAG have become involved with all aspects of turtle survival, and are involved in weighing, measuring and tagging turtles as well as helping with research on Fibropapilloma. QBAG works alongside the following organisations: Gudjuda, Girringun Aboriginal Corporation, NQ Dry Tropics, QPWS, The Sea Turtle Foundation, James Cook University, BBIFMAC, WWF, Bowen Life Saving Club, Whitsunday Regional Council, Bowen Independent.

NQ Dry Tropics have granted QBAG money which will see some of their members trained at Mon Repos. The training will cover the care of turtle nests and relocation of eggs, extending their knowledge so that they can help turtles to survive in our area.
