On 13 February 2017, an introduction to open science, and an introduction work package 2: Data mobilization framework (lead by the LifeWatch team at the INBO) were presented at the TrIAS kick-off meeting.

During 6 – 10 February 2017, the LifeWatch biodiversity expertise was shared in the Working Group on Biodiversity Science (WGBIODIV) meeting in Venice, Italy.

During 16 – 20 January 2017, LifeWatch INBO discussed a proof-of-concept data infrastructure at the ENRAM Western Flyway Workshop in the Swiss Ornithological Institute.

To celebrate Science Day 2018 on Sunday, 25th November, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) offered guided tours on the Flemish research vessel Simon Stevin. In addition, VLIZ demonstrated the variety of marine research at the Marine Station Ostend (MSO). During this edition, marine scientists bring secrets from the sea to the surface.

During 25-29 September 2017, both the Belgian LifeWatch observatory and the LifeWatch Species Information Backbone (including its current components) were presented at the 52nd European Marine Biology Symposium (EMBS52) in Piran, Slovenia.

On Sunday 26th of November 2017, VLIZ celebrated Science Day (Dag van de Wetenschap). For this event, VLIZ opened the doors of its Marine Station Ostend (MSO) and the LifeWatch laboratories for the public at large, for the fourth year in a row.

Two aspects of the Flemish LifeWatch infrastructure were presented:

(1) The LifeWatch Species Information Backbone (WoRMS - BerMS - MolluscaBase - Invasive species), and

Joint LifeWatch - EMODnet Biology exhibition booth: "From Observation to Data".
