FishBase is a global information system with all you ever wanted to know about fishes. FishBase is a relational database with information to cater different professionals such as research scientists, fisheries managers, zoologists and many more. FishBase on the web contains practically all fish species known to science. FishBase was developed at the WorldFish Center in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and many other partners, and with support from the European Commission.

Link with LifeWatch Species Information Backbone:

FishBase is one of the External Global Species Databases linked to WoRMSAll fish information is managed and maintained within FishBase, while WoRMS can make the taxonomy, distribution and trait information available through its own interface.

Through an intensified collaboration between WoRMS and FishBase, a number of tools have been developed to ensure a better synchronization between WoRMS and FishBase. LifeWatch has also provided financial support to update taxonomic information above species level and to add previously unrecorded distribution information (see LifeWatch data grants 2013-2014).
