Freshwater Animal Diversity Assessment (FADA)

url: http://fada.biodiversity.be/

FADA is an informal network of scientists specialized in freshwater biodiversity. The initial aim of FADA was to make a global assessment of freshwater animal groups, which resulted in the publication of a special issue of Hydrobiologia (FADA book) and in the development of the FADA database.

The FADA database is an information system dedicated to freshwater animal species diversity and distribution. The system provides access to authoritative species lists and global distributions, which were originally compiled by world experts for the FADA book.

FADA is one of the External Global Species Databases linked to WoRMS. As some editors decided to manage both the freshwater and marine species of their group in FADA, FADA is a source for marine species too. this is for example the case for Rotifera. Both the marine and non-marine Rotifera are managed and maintained within FADA by their world expert. The collaboration between FADA and WoRMS entails that the marine Rotifera are provided to WoRMS on a regular basis and that WoRMS provides feedback to FADA on all questions and remarks related to these marine Rotifera.

The interoperability between WoRMS and FADA is being improved through the development of a set of web services within the AquaRES project, a project closely related to LifeWatch. Read more about AquaRES here.
