Telemetrie: de whereabouts van vissen

On Thursday, November 4, Duinpanne is hosting a (Dutch) lecture given by our LifeWatch colleague Jan Reubens on fish telemetry.

Introduction of the lecture

Telemetry is a technology that uses electronic tags and  a receiver network to study the distribution and migration of fish. It helps scientists clarify unanswered questions about fish migration. The VLIZ and the Institute for Nature and Forest Research (INBO) manage about 170 receiving stations in the Belgian part of the North Sea and the Western Scheldt.

The fish tell interesting stories through their movements. For example, there are sea bass that seek out the warmth of nuclear power plants in winter and cod that flee from the sound of ships.
