Abstract
Balanus glandula is a species of barnacle that originally occurred along the coast of the north-eastern Pacific Ocean, as far away as Alaska. The species has already successfully colonised the coast of Argentina, Japan and South Africa and is expected to become common on European coasts. The species may have been introduced to Europe via ballast water or biofouling and was first observed in Belgium in 2015.
