Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of WoRMS with another publication: general insights and experiences from the DMT

Earlier today, PLoS One published a new Open Access paper in their WoRMS collection, entitled ‘A decade of the World Register of Marine Species – general insights and experiences from the Data Management Team’. The paper was written on occasion of the 10-year celebration of WoRMS, to highlight what WoRMS has been able to accomplish in the last decade and where we wish to go in the future …
As has been announced and communicated throughout last year, the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2017. A first big highlight in this celebration period was the complete relaunching of the WoRMS website, followed shortly after by a publication on how WoRMS is improving its nomenclatural consistency, based on its ten years of experience.

And we just keep going… This new paper gives insights in the many experiences of the Data Management Team and general statistics that show that WoRMS is not yet nearing completion, but is very good at keeping up with recent taxonomic research. The Data Management Team is grateful to all the editors that invest their free time into keeping WoRMS up-to-date and their daily efforts to strive towards completion.

This newly published paper is not only dedicated to the ten year anniversary of WoRMS, but also to all the involved editors, data managers and users – present and past – who have helped to keep WoRMS alive. A big thank you to all of you, and we hope to keep the momentum going for at least another ten years!
